Brandon Holloway Talks Recruiting

Alonso High School in the Tampa area is no rookie when it comes to producing speedy college prospects. This year will be no exception as running back/slot receiver Brandon Holloway is emerging as as one of best skill players in the state of Florida. He recently received an offer from an SEC school, evidence of his rising profile.

Holloway, a 5'9 155 pounder, has been flying under the radar because he has been involved in running track for Alonso instead of doing the combine/camp circuit. That anonymity is ending as more and more schools are catching on to the abilities of possesses.

While he has played mostly running back, his size and speed (he has run a 10.54 in the 100 meters) have most college recruiters looking at him as a slot receiver.

"I like slot receiver a lot. Just as much as I like running back," said Holloway. "At Alonso we've been running the spread offense since I've been here. Last year was the first year we started running the ball, but I'm really used to running the spread offense and catching the ball alot, so it's good for me."

As of April 20th, Holloway is up to seven offers: Vanderbilt, Toledo, Ball State, Temple, Arizona State, North Texas and South Alabama. He has no favorite or "dream school". Holloway is looking for a good fit athletically and especially academically as has tentative plans on a career as a lawyer. While no program leads in the race for his services one of the schools recruiting him does have an advantage with two former teammates as part of their roster.

"CJ Bennett and a close friend, TJ Glover, are at South Alabama," said Holloway. "I talked to CJ before he even left to go there and he told me he liked it on his visit and I just talked to TJ Glover there recently about it and he said that he liked it a lot up there and he said that he got a lot of playing time and really enjoyed it."

Because of his busy track season and spring football, Holloway doesn't anticipate taking any visits until this summer. At that time he'll make trips to many of the schools who have offered and perhaps see some new suitors as well. Undoubtedly he'll keep attracting more and more attention until Signing Day 2012.
